“In 2005 I was about to set off with two friends on a big adventure trying to kayak around Britain. Three mates just off having some fun. The three of us were at the Anglesey sea kayak symposium where we met Chris Reed. We all had fairly basic paddling clothes at the time for the trip and Chris – without knowing anything about us – kindly offered us each a piece of kit. I chose a storm cag to use as a waterproof jacket off the water. It was brilliant!

Over the years that followed I continued doing long trips or circumnavigations and I’ve worn Reed Chillcheater kit for every single one of them. I’ve seen quite a few changes, updates and improvements over the 19 years that I’ve been using their kit. However the old shorty cag deck that I wore to go around the South Island of New Zealand 16 years ago is still going strong today, and is possibly my favourite piece of on the water clothing.

In a time when so many UK businesses have their products manufactured cheaply in other countries it says so much about Chris that he still has his products made by local people in the workshop in Chapel Street, Devon.

I imagine at some point he may want to ease back a bit but hopefully the business will continue to thrive and have at least another 25 years of success.”
